Bear Cub & Elk Calf Photos
On March 16, 2009, Member Melissa Ebner and her daughter Samantha Ebner had the opportunity to tag baby bear cubs in Elk County. the mother was tranqulized to establish data on her weight, length, and general overall condition with the number of off spring. There were two baby bear cubs. the only addition when processing the cubs is establishing the sex.
This data is then compared to last years records to establish the health, growth and location of the bear. this is done on a yealy cycle which is then calculated with the status of the other black bear in the state that have been handled throughout the year. All this information is then used to determine the health and population of black bear in the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania.
The second 2 photos are as follows:

At the conclusion of the process, numbered tags were attached to the both ears and then recorded. This data is being used to determine the mortality rates, home range, and population densities.
